I'm giving up on it for now, if a patch isn't released in a week I'll try installing Fedora 4 running it on there. Installing the OpenAL SDK didn't help either.ĭeleting the config file was a waste of time, if you change the settings the game changes them back, if you set the file to read only it generates errors but no audio.

RealTek's drivers are mainly reference so I didn't install those. MSI's drivers seem to lag behind by 5 months and nVidia's drivers didn't fix the problem even tho they're supposed to support OpenAL. The sound card is standard nForce4, onboard RealTek ALC850.

I'm using a MSI K8N Neo4-F (nForce4), Athlon 64 3200+, 1GB DDR400 RAM (Samsung), ATI All-In-Wonder X600 Pro (256MB RAM). The problem is the game's default sound engine is failing to use DirectX so it's left with a crackpot implementation of OpenAL that can't use DirectX either. I sumitted a support request with Activition and noted that all of their "troubleshooting" steps have failed. The OpenAL site says it can use DirectX or a list of other supported platforms (including ALSA and OSS on Linux). "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy unified series Beta driver with OpenAL support " If your soundcard doesn´t support OpenAL, u have to buy a new one to play Q4.ītw, I found lately that this is reported in the minimum system requirements in Q4. I got the new beta drivers from creative for my audigy player and that did it. The solution is installing new sound drivers with OpenAl support. This shit screwed my mind for 2 or 3 days I had exactly the same problem, I also tried everithing. Well I think I´ve got the solution on this one.
